First off, let me extend my many MANY thanks to FAA for bringing this lovely, intriguing little film to FLM!! I HAD to get the DVD, and despite all I'm about to say, I'm VERY happy I did. It's a treasure for me! Thanks again, for turning us onto this, FAA!!

lol... Didn't explain a damn thing.. Except maybe some technical details like how the maggots they used cost more than some of the crew's salaries...
I was so excited about this film, sight unseen, that I rushed and got the DVD, for all the extras it purported to contain [mostly I was interested in the George Romero interviews..].
I watched the film first then deeply perplexed I searched to find out what the director's original idea was behind the film. Not a damn bit of explanation. This is truly one of those films where its interpretation is SOLELY left in the varied minds of it's audience.
Beyond this point, note that there are possible ‘spoilers’ for anyone not yet having watched this film:
Spoiler:
The closest it got to explaining anything about the film is on the 'Making of...' when one of the crew stated that "...anyone expecting to see 'birds' in this film will be sorely disappointed.." Amen to that!
In the commentary it was said that they were especially proud the way the final shot turned out, [created by John Camdon’s Company, Switch Digital Effects] as it was “..absolutely ‘key’ to the whole film..”; the director’s comment being, “Yes, it’s beautiful… Almost exactly the way I pictured it..” MY thought was/is, ‘Absolute Bullocks‘!!
Honestly, the end shot was totally surrealistic compared to the rest of the film [despite the tentacles and the creatures ‘birthed‘ from the black goo…], it was almost a ‘heavenly’ setting that the creatures were floating off into.. Nothing like the ‘real‘ world that the little girl had wandered to the house from. When that scene appeared, I immediately began praying 'Don't let this be the end of the film, PLEASE, don't....' precisely because I felt it just didn't 'fit' with the rest of the film; ESPECIALLY as an ending.. But, sadly...
I thought ‘Fables‘ were supposed to have something of a ‘moral‘ to them. Other than a possible NIX on ‘curiosity‘, this dark little story has none.
Don’t get me wrong; I loved little Skyler Wexler [and her rendition of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow] and I found the movie interesting enough to spend 8 minutes watching [however the end credits {which even the filmmakers commented on being long} were shut down after about 40 seconds…], but I, like yoko, didn’t get the point.. EVEN after viewing everything that the filmmakers had to offer in the ‘Special Features’.
Hell, the director's short 2 min. film 'Self Portrait' in the 'Bonus' section had more of a point than this movie..
My little penny-farthing…
kev.

lol... you're welcome very much. I was sold on this movie from the second I saw the poster. I had actually been looking for this movie for almost a year searching far and wide (ie. all over the internet). When I finally found out the DVD had been released I bought it without thinking and a week later I found it uploaded to youtube.
I recorded it with the commentary (before I listened to it) hoping it might help other people understand it but the closest they actually get to explaining the movie is one part where they are comparing the movie to one of the locations they used for it and saying "it was completely pointless, it just looked nice". Good thing movies don't have to make sense for me to enjoy them!
