It's a disaster ... If it makes ghost forget what version he used for his final dual-language version, you KNOW it is bad.
Weirdly I almost find the 1080p tvrip better looking than the BluRay encodes..
Awwww! Once I had the 8Gb version and ghost's remux, I abandoned the TVrip because I figured I now had better.

I think the TVrip may be sharpened and brightened, but again there have been so many versions that I can not keep them straight.

So true! Or is the Alzheimer finally also getting to him? :D :D (just kidding)

You might be very right here, looks almost too sharp In a sense. (I frequent a forum where people regularly release 4k upscale of 1080p films and they often look „too sharp“. There also exist the so-called UHD2BD.1080p releases that are full-hd encodes done from the 4k uhd disk of a Film. These will look better than if the film is regularly sourced from a 1080p BluRay disk since the source material is better.

I dunno if a 4k upscale of a 1080p source is worth the effort; at that point I think it best to either leave it to the professionals or force yourself to tolerate that dreadful low-resolution 1080p garbage. :? (I suppose that forum does NOT have the ability to encode the results in Dolby Vision, which is one of the real potentials of the UHD format.) However, I CAN see the benefit of a 1080p downscale from a 4k UHD source ... for the many people who can not justify a 89Gb download! Many times with physical disk releases, the 4k version will be from a new master but the blu-ray paired with it will be a 15-year-old recycle. When they do a new master for the blu-ray too, it can look terrific.

Yes. And sometimes they even do it as a so-called Regrade: basically what ghost has done many times in the past: correcting colors, contrast, grain, light.

Here a regular UHD2BD at 23GB of „The Fisher king“ with R.Williams and Beau Bridges:

Correcting colors etc. when previous releases have problems is good, because sometimes (ahem) the "professionals" get it wrong. (I readily admit that!)

I have TFK on BD but I would actually need to see side-by-side screencaps to see any difference. (Not asking you to do that, because then we would really be getting off-topic.)

Preach. While distributors release old DVD‘s, this is what „hobbyists“ and „fans“ accomplish with regular software (to be fair anime/cartoons are the easiest to remaster):

A classic and a masterpiece (in a remastered version, thank god), it's one of those movies where you always feel like you're on vacation.

Remastered? Does anyone recall when this one was remastered? I already have 6 or 7 encodes of this movie and now there's a remaster? I wonder if I already have the remaster now.

I have been meaning to scrutinize my small collection of files of this film to get rid of all but two. Maybe a remaster will make it easier.

A 4k restoration was shown in French theatres in April 2023.

A 4k restoration was used to create the November 2022 BluRay, the only BluRay I know about.

If you have a BluRay rip, then you have the 4k restoration. But maybe ... will they release a 4k UHD later?

DaveTheBoss's versions have this splash screen at the very beginning. I do not remember if the versions I downloaded last year had them.
