What DVD do you have that has English subtitles!??!?? I spent quite a bit of time searching out this movie before I discovered FLM. I have two damned expensive import DVDs, one Japanese and one Hungarian. I remember the Japanese had burned-in Japanese subtitles. I did not encounter English subtitles until I found them online later. The original subtitles at opensubtitles are transcribed from a VHS TVRip. It looks like the subtitles you shared are sourced from my March 2021 revision, which added in a missing 2-minute scene.

Anyway, ALL subtitles contain mistakes. I take that as a given.

You know how you have this obsession with video upgrades? I approve. I have an obsession with translation upgrades. Every time a watch a movie I learn more and more about it, and errors in subtitles get more glaringly obvious. My choice is to either go back to watching it without subtitles, or improve them for my next viewing ...

Thank you once again to ghost and Night for all your work in sharing movies. I watched this movie years ago, it was the dark 1cd release. I remember being quite touched by the plight of the girl and it was one of those movies that just nestled up inside the back of cerebellum and made me yearn to swoop in and help. Many scenes from this movie still stick out in my mind, the hot coals, abusive neighbor, and the scene with the couple potentially looking to adopt (I vaguely recall mistaken identity involved). If I had remembered it at the time, it might have ended up in my top 10 post.

Now with improved subs and HD upscaling and brightness adjustment, I look forward to revisiting this film.

The look of hope and quiet joy on Csore's face completely destroys me. I am a complete wreck just typing this post.

This movie is so painful for me to watch, but I am a masochist so it is one of my very favorites.
