official 2023 restoration
:icon_1dancingban Thanks a lot for finding, Night. I'm very curious!

I hope they did brighten the picture (compared to the much too dark DVD).

Ha, I was already pleased with your upscale, and I did not do direct image comparisons. Maybe because my ears are better than my eyes, I quickly noticed the better and cleaner sound quality.

There's still some work to do. Nice and clean HD picture, but:

MEGA LINKS are now in my Release post.

I was thinking about the Arvacska film lighting after your first post, and I came to the realization that this was a period film
where the rural cottages would in the reality of the story not have had indoor electric lighting. Since the filmmakers did not opt for Hollywood style Klieg lighting for their filming locations/sets, the sunny outdoor scenes were bright and the indoor scenes were dark because that would be the experience of both the characters as well as the actors playing the roles. So I would make allowances for that. Still, there is such a thing as TOO DARK for the audience to see what they are supposed to see and that could be argued for some of the scenes. I would have to pay close attention while watching the film in the dark -- and I know that usually means I will fall asleep! I can't even stay awake for a half hour sitcom.

Note, I discovered the itorrent.ws site when just like deadman I was looking for the original posting site for the recently shared torrent-sourced file for Meztelen Vagy. This site was linked with Hungarian film or Hungarian dub search results similar to the Meztelen Vagy WebDL source and/or torrenter. However, the site seems to be only directly searchable by registering, and they have not seen fit to actually send the confirmation email so that I can confirm the registration and log in. SOMEONE ELSE may have better luck trying itorrent.ws with a more acceptable fake email address, and thus raid it for any other Hungarian films of interest that may be hiding there.

No, the outdoor scenes are to dark too (look at the corn field in the beginning) and at these two pics. There's just not enough exposure.

The film starts with the sun rising, she drives the cow out into the fields in the early dawn, it gets sunny later in the day, there is after that a brief thunderstorm but no rain seen, the sun returns and she encounters Uncle Pista among some crops and he carries her from out in the open to under the shade of the trees with the visible light changing accordingly in one uncut take (05:02-05:41), and finally she returns home at dusk and ends up in bed in the murky dark with the other children. The lighting changes naturally throughout the day because that is life for farmers. I see sun quite easily in the scenes that have it. (And yes, I do realize that the narrative of the film would be constructed from many days of filming for one "day" in the life of Csore.)

I can accept that perhaps they might not have had the best film stock and that some scenes are underexposed from lack of artificial lighting, but not that the whole film is generally dark. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. I have seen the excellent results you produce when you tweak video, so I am certainly not out to discourage you from making improvements.

WOW!

What a find, Night! Thanks for sharing. Seems like some Hungarian classics are getting the special treatment. 8-) 8-)

I'll help source it over emule with ya.

This is one I wouldn't mind having a couple duplicates of, in case you're willing to share you upgrade to this one, ghost. I understand it takes time, no rush!

I am curious, this file is labeled as a web-dl, but it isn't very large. I assume this is also a product of the work that's going into Hungarian film by the filmio.hu site? Does anyone suppose this an encode of the original available from that site? deadman noted in the Meztelen vagy thread that a full rip of it might be around 4 to 5gb. I am wondering if this is a similar case.

But is any case, I am happy with this upgrade as well!

Yes, the FMIO in the filename means it is from filmio.hu.
https://www.filmio.hu/film/arvacska-14628791
It would take a Hungarian phone number and payment to find out how large the original streaming file is. I also would have liked a larger file, even though I don't actually want to watch it.

So which one do you prefer, when you have the comparison?

I suspected that it came from filmio.hu. I've tried to rent Meztelen vagy. I could solve the telephone number problem, but they didn't accept my IP. I used different VPNs fom Hungary, but always saying I'm in the wrong country. :(
