What a memory ! A wonderful film that oscillates between a road movie and a buddy movie. In this film, the shadow of Franck Capra hovers as well as in two other films that I love where Charles Grodin has a supporting role (Taking Care of Business, 1990 and Dave, 1993). I had never seen De Niro in such a relaxed role before (at that time), he reminds me of Belmondo and Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop directed by Martin Brest, the director of Midnight Run (!). The moment I love about this movie is when in the middle of a frantic race, the unlikely duo, short of money, is forced to stop at De Niro's ex-wife's house to ask for help. It is then that an angel appears, De Niro finds himself in front of his daughter whom he has not seen for a long time, it is really a magical sequence, an enchanted parenthesis in the film. That's when the film literally stops for a few minutes, we completely forget the main plot... We can feel the obvious lack, the time lost or wasted by the absence of the father and his daughter, even without any words exchanged. Maybe it marked me because even at that age I still didn't know my father (I will wait until the age of 25 to meet him).
A cult film, feel good with a plethora of great small roles.... I think that this film held a special place in the hearts of the two actors...
Even for a single scene, this film deserves to be here, don't you
