[REL] Runt Page (1932) [USA]

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0134070/
A little girl falls asleep as her parents and their friends discuss the film "The Front Page", and she dreams about reporters, a cop, and an escaped convict (all played by children).

This is supposedly the first film appearance of Shirley Temple. This is also the first of the "Baby Burlesk" series: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby_Burlesks. Toddlers in diapers act out adult roles. In this one, the children's dialog is spoken by an adult doing comical voices and accents. (Later shorts had the children speaking their own lines.) The parody plot here makes sense to anyone who has seen The Front Page (1931) or any of its remakes, but is probably bewildering to anyone else. It does not really matter!

Cool, Night! This looks awesome. When I first saw the title, I misread it as Runt Rage. "Baby Burlesk" series, and maybe inspiration for the "Look Who's Talking" and "Baby Geniuses/Boss Baby" movies. I had no idea comical dubbing of babies-as-characters was done before "Look Who's Talking".

I had the exact same thought when I read the IMDB and other online reviews from people bewildered at what people in the old-timey days supposedly found funny! Sorry, no, people still have questionable taste in movies and find stupid things funny.

Not that I am defending the "Baby Burlesk" series at all, even though I Released them. I just don't think people change all that much. Maybe the majority of FLM members are more sophisticated, so aesthetes please be forewarned. This might not be the right Release for them.

All the aesthetes here can go do what aethetiwhats do. I will likely still find stupid things funny for the rest of my life! Indeed, I have watched the first 7 seasons of Beavis and Butthead. "Older" stupid things may even have more quaintness to them.

But how many TIMES have you watched B&B? Over and over again? You probably should not answer that.

I used to be such a snob, until I watched The Three Stooges and laughed at it. That took a real knock at my pretentiousness. I am mostly cured of it by now. I do still like films that only impossible aesthetes can tolerate, I just like "junk" too. I am an omnivore, OM NOM NOM NOM!
