[REL] Il sole nella pelle (1971) aka Summer Affair
Re: [REL] Il sole nella pelle (1971) aka Summer Affair
Looks great! I am trying to figure out the older posts in this thread, so by "full uncensored version" does that mean that the propeller scene is shown in graphic detail? Or does the uncut version just mention that unfortunate event? I ask because I DO like a good giallo. But without that, Ornella will keep my interest.

They show cuts of the guy jumping and falling through the air, spliced together with clips of Ornella and other onlookers. Then we see the reporter going in to tell his editor that the kid came up a little short trying to jump to the yacht and fell on the propeller. I don't know that a version exists where we see him getting ground up - or falling off the bottom of the screen, followed by a spray of blood coming up, that sort of thing. I've seen some Italian films from the same era that are absolutely soaked in gore. If they were going to censor anything it would've been the nude scenes.
I can see why a previous poster might've thought the director was gay. The DVD I have does everything possible to hide Ornella's body. Zooms in, crops out, and skips past scenes where neither of those would work. As a result you see way more of her costar than her. 91 minutes is the length given for the uncut film - so I'm guessing the bluray restored everything missing from the DVD. This is the film shown to Italian audiences in 1971.

What did you use to translate the subtitles? I used a site utilizing GPT-4-Turbo before, but I thought I might get yours since you did additional correctionsdeadman wrote: Tue Jul 02, 2024 11:12 pm Been a while since anyone posted in this thread. Well I have good news: it's bluray upgrade time!

Please avoid quoting entire release posts. Images and download links go down - I can edit my original post to replace the lost images and put up new links, but your quoted version won't change when I do that.
Here's what I did. I used the program tsMuxer to open the movie's .m2ts file and extract the subtitles as a .pgs. That's essentially the subs as a series of images. I opened this file in Subtitle Edit, which uses OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to read the pictures and turn them into a text file. I then did an initial save of the raw German subs as an .srt file.
The software comes with its own translation function that uses Google translate on all the captions. I saved the result as a separate English .srt and opened up that file in Notepad. Needless to say the results were imperfect. I read through the English version and corrected most of the errors, I may have missed a handful, but the dialogue is now a lot more accurate and about as natural sounding as it can be - given that some translated dialogue always sounds a bit awkward.
Here are links to two download pages for the pieces of software I mentioned, if you need them:
tsMuxeR
Subtitle Edit
Feel free to PM me if you have any trouble.

Ah, I was just curious about the translation method, didn't know it was just Google. I'll probably just stick with mine then. I'm already well aware of the other stuff, but thank you.

Hey lsg, feel free to post yours as well, if you manage to complete them. I am sure there are those who would appreciate having a couple options to choose from.

You're welcome.
But as far as I can determine, this is the full and uncut version of the movie. Unlike the previous DVD version none of it was censored.
