mimzy wrote: Tue Mar 25, 2025 9:42 pmMy guess is that it's the usual lowID problem -- in order to download from Caleyunior (lowID?), he must download something from you (highID) at the same time.
I have known for years that two emulers with LowID can not directly share with one another, but somehow I missed learning about that additional restriction. :|
Don't take what I wrote as an absolute truth, but the fact is that lowID is behind a firewall and there is no way to connect it directly and somehow lowID needs to know that you want to download from it. My experience is that downloading from lowID who is only sharing and not actively downloading is very difficult if not impossible. Probably the exact technical details and requirements are documented somewhere...

Are you able to download complete files in emule?
Have you ever uploaded a complete file in emule? (That is, a 3 GB file uploaded a full 3 GB.)
Are you LowID or HighID? I would see that in the lower right corner of a Servers tab screenshot.
I have sometimes managed to download 1 GB files from Ghost in short films, but I have never uploaded 3 GB files, sometimes it won't even let me download them, I don't know much about eMule because as I said I'm not a computer professional, and in any case I'm with Low ID.

Here is the screenshot.

Thank you for the info, I will look into your screenshot and come up with other questions I am sure!

Right now I am downloading "One Foot In Front" from somebody. Is that you, Caley? (Or maybe it is someone else who downloaded and shared the Vimeo file.)

Yes the file is mine, I downloaded it from Vimeo with the original quality and shared it on eMule.

Yes, the file is yours but I want to know if I am getting it from you, or someone else sharing the same file also from Vimeo. I have done that at times: I download from the same source and put it in my shared folder, and it matches the hash of what someone else posts on FLM.

Your screenshot shows nothing shared yet at the time of the screenshot. Has it changed? Is it uploading now?

Great! I can see myself downloading from you with my HighID and your LowID. I am also downloading from SOMEONE ELSE at FLM, with HighID. I don't know if that person connected to YOU for the file, or "cheated" and uploaded the Vimeo file on his own.

For right now I just want to maintain the emule connection to you without either of us doing anything to our clients to change them. I will try to come up with some ideas for later, but for now I consider this a success!

Thank you, this saves me from having to download from Vimeo myself. I like using eMule when I can.

I will keep eMule running until this evening, at 21:30, then I will disconnect.

Caley - good plan, thank you!

Ghost - The one from the U.S. in theory could have been me because I have my VPN set there today. I don't see myself uploading any of that file to anyone at the moment, although I am still downloading it. There is no reason that two HighID emulers can not connect, unless one of our clients banned the other. I don't see anyone banned right now so maybe my client annoyed yours! How did you get the country flags? I have never seen that. Did you upgrade to v0.70 or something?
