After losing her father during an undisclosed apocalyptic event that wipes out all of humanity, Samantha finds an abandoned military base where she lives in complete solitude for an unknown but lengthy amount of time. Having learned how to hunt and trap animals from her father, Sam is in every sense of the word a survivor. While foraging for food in one of the hundreds of abandoned military houses on the base, Sam encounters an 8 year old boy named James. This is the first human contact either of them have had in a very long time. After showing James an old abandoned movie theater and sharing candy and stories with him, the two become friends, exploring this strange land of abandoned buildings together. As the two share more and more about themselves, their hopes, their fears, their secrets, over time their friendship evolves into something more. When their supply of fresh water begins to run dry, they are faced with the reality that their oasis on this military base has always been temporary. Eventually they would have to leave, for good.

Am I the only one who thinks maybe it would have been better as a silent movie?

I think it has great theme, scenery, lens vibe, pictures and characters, everything is fascinating in the beginning, but once they start the lines and conversations, everything starts to get awkward... and those strange music that suddenly inserted then disappeared... I think the sound of this movie really needs to be remade well.

I feel like I'm watching a beautiful doomsday movie, but listening to a campy TV show at the same time. It's worth a look anyway, but maybe you'd consider turning the sound down or off, then maybe with a slow lyrical doomsday style music.

By the way, that hand trailer reminds me of The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet (2013), I loved that movie and it was a great pleasure.

I don't think the movie is amateurish, it's definitely professional in terms of graphics, but they do lack a good sound production. It's kind of a shame.
