Spoiler: A person might have different reasons for enjoying THIS movie. Back in the 1980s/90s (?) I was drawn to it for Greta Scacchi, and enjoyed her despite finding Eric Roberts somewhat annoying both then and now. It took decades before I even had access to other movies with the adorable little Rebecca Smart. You may or may not appreciate the movie's comic element: while it is the American who is ultimately shown to be the biggest fool (and American me accepts that without reservation), it also consistently presents Australians as frequently eccentric and occasionally lunatic. Since it is based on short stories by Australian writer Frank Moorhouse, perhaps you won't find that to be an unfair and bigoted portrayal by an outsider author...
