MakeMKV BETA has an expiration date when used in freeware mode -- it will stop functioning after 60 days. You can always download the latest version from makemkv.com that will reset the expiration date. If registered, the program never expires.

The latest version was issued 5.4.2025 so if that is the last one then it will expire and stop functioning 60 days after download without clock resets. Hopefully those who paid to register their MakeMKV will not LOSE that lifetime registration -- but I never paid.

Functionality to open DVD discs is free and will always stay free.

I really do think I screwed myself by using the BluRay feature, which set up constant expirations and ruined the "always" free DVD feature.

I RevoUninstalled "official" MakeMKV before installing the rsload repack, removing all traces, and it still shows EXPIRED. Oh well.

Right now I can not read the MakeMKV forum F.A.Q. as directed to by the forum experts because it has a fatal error.

Oups! I checked my version and it says "registered".
Maybe I installed a cracked version a few years ago, and all the newer versions I installed after that were also registered, of course.

Gee, if I wanted to put in the work to learn how to run a virtual machine then the FIRST thing I would do BEFORE that is learn how to use Linux again. (It has been at least 15 years and I was not very good at it.) Doing that would be work with more value, and I could run Windows on a virtual machine!

The heck if I can see where that launches MakeMKV between time changes in that script! When I was young I could read programming languages but apparently no more.

If he decided to convert his software entirely to a paid model that would be OK, but the thought that he might have just died on us made me sad. He has to at least outlive ME.

I have my software updated now. I will see if I can resist using it on BluRays, and if that makes any difference!

Windows Media Player is one of "the better generalist players"????? I always thought it was garbage. I even used Quicktime on an IBM-PC rather than use WMP! Much as I like VLC, I readily acknowledge that there can easily be better players especially for disks. I don't have PowerDVD any more because it was only a temporarily free (6 months?) version. Of course if I was ripping or authoring BluRay disks, I suppose I would be willing to invest in PowerDVD as well. Thank you for the recommendation.

I used cracked software once and liked it until it caused problems for my computer. It was easy to fix but I swore to never again use cracked commercial software! For the things that I need to do, the free open-source software does well for me. From your posts I understand that you have been involved in far more advanced video projects than I would dare attempt.
