Short films are lucky to get a theatrical showing at short film festivals! Many seem to go straight to streaming, which is much better than being lost.

If you click on that date you'll see that's the date it was shown at the Chicago Film Festival. That's how I found the festival page.

Many films entered in festivals will not be released anywhere else, as these festivals often require exclusive premieres or other complicated rules.

But it looks like it at least helped you find the TED talk doesn't it?

That's true, but I still don't like that it's not being released outside of the festival. Because sometimes there are such important movies that I want to watch but can't... sometimes I even wait for years. :)

There is nothing to do.

Streaming sites or premium television channels seem an obvious place that short films SHOULD be released, and sometimes they do actually appear on sites like Vimeo or YouTube. But not often enough! HBO used to show shorts back in the 80s (the last time I watched HBO) but I do not know about now.

You're right, Night. In fact, when there is a film festival, I am either out of town or I don't have enough money. I wish film festivals had affordable digital media...

I do know that there was a sudden popularity in digital-only film festivals in the early 2020s for some reason. I do not know exactly how affordable they were, but I know they cost less than a plane ticket to travel around the world. Where I live, I can not even manage the time and effort involved in driving to the "big city" where the good theatres are with movies I would want to see.
