"You don't imagine waking up in the morning that it's the morning of a tragedy. Because it's just like every other morning."

This phrase inspired @volanoemi in his illustration for #IlRapimentoDiArabella: a giant rooster puppet sitting at dinner with Arabella, an image that captures the unpredictability of the film and of life itself.

From Amazon, the movie about The Abduction of Arabella on DVD will be released on (March 25, 2026).

Be patient for another month. I'm telling you this because it's a really good movie, believe me! ;)

And it's dubbed entirely in Italian, since American actor Chris Pine speaks Italian. If the English title is included, it seems obvious to me that there will be subtitles.

I'll tell you something, don't worry, it's not a spoiler.

This film shares a certain melancholy atmosphere and the theme of childhood, just like Fortuna (2020).

Fortuna is a childhood in a desecrated territory. The melancholy here is dark and oppressive; the little girl protagonist creates an imaginary world (where she is called Nancy and is a space princess) to protect herself from a reality of unspeakable abuse. The film is a "delicate dreamlike tale of denied childhood."

While The Kidnapping of Arabella is melancholy of a "melanchomic" kind (a mix of sadness and irony). The theme of childhood serves the adult protagonist to rediscover a "misaligned" and pure version of herself. The relationship with the little girl is not marked by violent trauma, but by a sense of shared loneliness and the desire to escape social norms.

In conclusion, just to give you a better understanding of the details, the film Fortuna is a drama about the loss of innocence through the betrayal of adults, while The Kidnapping of Arabella is a late coming-of-age story that tries to recover that innocence in order to survive in the adult world.

They are two very different films, both sharing a certain melancholic atmosphere and the theme of childhood.
