Please start posting - especially newcomers

The level of action here is becoming low lately, with the usual suspects (about 15 members I think out of 3,103 !!) posting any new stuff. It is not difficult to find new stuff - you just need to put time and effort into it as we do. Research is the key, normally you can find a film which looks promising using keywords, then plug it into IMDB and/or google, and you can usually tell if the download is then worthwhile. At a very minimum, you can go through those films in the REQ section and see if you can find any out there on E2dk, Newsgroups, torrents etc., or buy then rip a good dvd. There are also loads of sites posted here for new stuff/old stuff etc. We do not have the time to go through them all, so that is another avenue. I think we have enough members to make this a very lively forum, and should not have to rely solely on the regulars. Other forums require minimum posts, and until now, I have been against this, but now I think it is time to think about this.

Up to you guys now on what is your view.

I have to agree and disagee with you. It would be nice to see more people doing the research and posting stuff. Obviously there is only a finite number of films out there but the more people searching the better. The minimum posting idea is fine in principle but if we get rid of the leechers we also get rid of the very same people who help share the films on emule. It would save the site's bandwith but our downloads would slow down. Catch 22.

I'm sick of this yearly "3000 members and only a few are posting" whining. If each member does 1 post per week, it's a real fulltime job just to read them all! :icon_sleep1

Well there is good and bad - the good is that the forum would be more lively - lately it HAS become very stagnant with very few new releases. The bad side is that we could get absolute dross posted just so that the minimum can be met.

It is not "whining" Idler - just opening for comments about what other people think - it is clear which side of the fence you are on and that is fine by me.

Now what do the rest think ?

Give the new guys a break! Let them lurk for a while, posting a comment here or there, gradually getting to know the forum, it's rules and how it works. If they come across something interesting, of course they'll post.

Like my grandma (a pretty strict lady) used to tell me when I was a kid: Don't talk unless you have something to say.

Why don't we encourage everyone to browse the requests section on a regular basis and see if they can find something to either turn the request into a release, or fill out the request with more info, screenshots etc.?

This ground was covered ages ago.

The conclusion was as mentioned here.
Those not releasing are still sharing, so not really leaching.... that’s the great thing about emule, you have to share!

I still agree that it would be nice to see more people releasing, it would keep us mods busier :)

Problem is, if we insist on everyone having to release occasionally, we could end up with some serious junk to sort through.

Like some, I started releasing on the same day I joined FLM.... It was a real buzz knowing I was contributing and that some people thought my releases were worthy.

If anyone is thinking of posting there first release, I would say go for it!!
Don’t worry if you screw it up, we are here to help :)

I just remember when I first started, it took me a while to get my bearings.

Also with the amount of movies that have been released, it does take some time to go through them and get comfortable with the type of movies posted here.

I say give everybody time and they will come through in the end. You never know they may have a title that everybody has been looking for, like what I did when I started.

Be patient and we may get rewarded in the end.

ill do "lurk" in here alot and find some stuff that intrest me, BUT i guess theres a few problem gettin involved in these topics. I have my favourits in these films, But the films i really like is kinda "not allowed" so then its not relevant for gettin involved in forumposting.

Hi Autotiger - didn't know we had any "not allowed" stuff in here ?

The suggestions I made were intended to be a way that "shy" newcomers could usefully get involved, I do this myself occasionally and have come up trumps with some that have been on the REQlist for ages.

As for the "minimum posts" thing, well the intention was to evoke a discussion as to whether this was a desirable option or not. I appreciate the point about links being shared by lurkers but at the same time, I decided from the outset that I wanted to usefully contribute to this forum and now have been (almost) fully accepted in this capacity. It is great fun once we start some banter, and I have learned a lot from other posters.

I hope this will encourage you and others like yourself to become more active. If not, as Idler (I think it was) says, no sweat.

I'm new to the forum and I don't really have much to contribute, I haven't really seen most of these movies you guys are talking about.. but I think this place is interesting and I will do my best to fit in :)
