11-year-old Paula dreams about her prince. Her classmate Tobi, who has a crush on Paula, sees her get robbed on the subway. Paula does not care about her mobile phone and school stuff, but she has to get her diary back; all her deepest secrets are in it. Paula is to go to a posh holiday camp, and the kids need to make some clever arrangements in order to go after the criminals. Their parents must also be kept in the dark.

The theft of her most personal possession opens a young girl's eyes to the inequalities around her in the intelligent and dynamic Paula's Secret.

Eleven-year-old Paula is happiest when fantasizing about meeting a fairytale prince who exists in the dreams she records in her diary. Alas, the only boy who likes her is Tobi who, to Paula, is the exact opposite of a prince. In fact, she ignores him whenever he follows her. However, as she is returning home on the last day of school, Paula's backpack is stolen by young pickpockets. Tobi witnesses the theft and, as she is desperate to recover her diary, Paula agrees to his offer to help track down the thieves. But when she discovers the thieves are youth from another country who are being forced to steal, Paula must decide if she has the courage to help rescue them.

Paula's Secret foregrounds contrasts in socio-economic class to explore discrimination based on income and wealth, and the exploitation of children for criminal purposes. Director Gernot Krää's excellent script and strong direction balance tense, serious moments with lighter scenes. These elements combine to tell an important story about taking responsibility and standing up to injustice while so many others choose to look away.

No subs found so far. Various websites show film festival screenings with English subs, so they exist, but I don't know if the DVD has them.

I got the DVD a few months back from Amazon.de..

Unfortunately no subs...

Actually it's REALLY unfortunate as this is one of those movies that emuler would argue [and would be right] would benefit with subs as it's pretty talky in places..
