VLC DIVX woes

Post by billanben »   0 likes

Hope someone can help/advise.

If I try to play a DivX movie with VLC, it just sits there with the timer on 00:00 trying to render the file. Can play same file OK on WMPC.

Have tried upgrading to VLC 0.86 test2 beta - same thing. If I end the VLC program it exits with a crash screen - error in vlclib.dll

Can anyone help with this - what codec do I need to play these with VLC - have tried clearing preferences.

Maybe if someone can post (probably pm) a listing of their settings in prefences I can check to verify mine are same.

Thanks for help

Hmmm i got no idea, what's the problem. If you have the DivX codec installed, it also should work with VLC.

Baffled. Try resetting the preferences to defaults.

see originally post - already tried the preference thing.

If I can find a link which does not work in VLC for me, can some kind soul try downlaod/preview and see if it works for them ? Also which version of DIVX codec you using ?

I use K-Lite Codec Pack (hit google with it).

I have yet to come across any problems viewing any video file using VLC with this pack.

I always thought VLC came packed with the DivX codec anyway, but I could be wrong.

Sometimes there's a codec clash. Some versions of XviD have the option to set themselves as the default codec for Divx also, which can lead to problems if the Divx version used for compression is newer. Try uninstalling XviD or disable that option in the codec's setting.
