Running the PC several days long without closing it

Until recently I always let my PC to run days, even weeks long without any interruption. Few weeks ago the problems started, namely many programs were slowing down, many icons get deformed or they don´t show at all, and above all, I can´t close or even restart my PC, I must always proceed "brutally". On one instance my antivirus showed a trojan, but only once. I wonder if it is harmless for the PC to run for longer time without a break, but on the other hand it seems to be unavoidable when one wants to gain better position on eMule. Any comments, experiences etc.?

On a stable, clean system there should not be any problems. On Win98, sure, but on XP or Vista, you can run for weeks. If you can't get it clean, consider formatting your C drive and reinstalling everything.

Do a full scan of your system. AV, antispyware, trojans, the works.

I have the same problem, I can only run my computer for about 3 or 4 days at most then my computer becomes a huge problem. It freezes and I have to unplug it to turn it off.

It is the most annoying thing to deal with. All my antivirus, spyware and all that stuff says my computer is clean. At this point it is looking like I may just have to start all over.

Even that creates a few problems in it self.

Right now I don't know what it is but I am Dealing with it.

Well, mainly the performance of MS Explorer decreases in time. Sometimes restart helps, sometimes not.

Its like spring cleaning ,every so often you have to format your hard drive and reload.
Make sure you keep your important stuff on a portable hard drive and re-install. I do this about every
4mths. I know its not fun but it has to be done.

Ah! Someone who thinks like I do. As for it not being fun - I rather seem to enjoy it. The performance boost is quite impressive.

However, if you partition your hard disk, you can save all the important stuff on the other partition(s) and just format C drive. Not everyone has access to a good portable hard drive with the needed capacity. Worth having one around though - very convenient.

Well, it sounds good, about reformating the HDD, maybe a good way to increase the performance. But right now I was trying to avoid slowing down of the system etc. with the help of restart. The performance of e. g. MS Explorer is definitely far better than before, but on the other hand, I was already on very good download speed on e Mule, like 30 - 40 KB/s, after the restart and necessary maintenance I´m again on speeds about 1-2 KB/s. Looks like eMule require its users to run their PC´s 24h/7d/4w.

1. Make sure your temp folder is not on the drive you are formatting. LOL
2. Save your emule config folder. It has all your settings and credits. Copy the contents into the new config folder after reinstalling everything including eMule, and you'll be fine.
3. If you have moved the temp and incoming folders to new locations, make the changes in the options> general> directories.

TIP: Download the binary (zip or RAR file instead of the exe). Extract it to an empty folder on a non system partition, ie. not on C drive. Make the settings you need to - copy the files from your old config folder, then go to options and set the paths to the new locations. Now make a shortcut on your desktop to your emule.exe (right click emule.exe and send to desktop) for your convenience. Now you can format C drive as many times as you like, and all you need to do after reinstalling Windows is to make a shortcut on your desktop.

Yes, when you restart the client you lose your place in the queues of all the sources that you had found. You also have to find the sources again. There is a setting to save / load sources; enable that and it will remember the sources that you had found earlier for that file. This is very useful and gives you a head start; if one of these sources has given you a friendslot, you're in gravy.
