[REL] The Hunger Games (2012)

Hunger was pretty good but the premise has been used before in a Japanese film which I can't for the life of me remember the name of. Juveniles (delinquents/gang members/whathaveyou) all put on an island to fight to the death until one is left. It was much gorier than Hunger in that many more of the actual killings were onscreen instead of just announced with a cannon sound, plus Hunger only had 23 potential victims.

Somebody help me out with the name of the Japanese film so I can dig it up and watch it again - I'm in the mood for blood.

I see similarities to "The Running Man" as well. The idea of films based on evil TV shows is not new, but it works. When you consider some of the reality TV shows out there, the idea is not so farfetched after all. Anything to get higher ratings.

There was also Series 7: The Contenders (2001). I wasn't interested in the movie (off-topic), but it had a great soundtrack by one of my favorite bands.

Sorry about that we do tend to talk about a lot of crap that fills up a thread making it difficult to read through to find the actual movie link. Your effort to present an offering is appreciated.
