I did an upscale to 720p some months ago, but the source quality was pretty bad.

Yeah. I have the DVD and it's not great quality. Also one of those formats that takes up too little of the screen. There's a limited amount you can do with this kind of source material - your upscale turned out surprisingly well, considering.
