I downloaded this SD video and found that there are no commercials or extra scenes. It is just waaaaaay sloooooowed down so the same footage runs much longer. The little children's voices are pitch-shifted so that they are grunting like 400-pound sumo wrestlers! I find it hard to believe that it was broadcast like this on TV; something must have gone wrong in a recode. Absolutely stick with one of the 1080p versions!Night457 wrote: Fri Jun 13, 2025 5:00 pm [Code] ...
I noticed that the smaller file is over 26 minutes longer than the other one and the IMDB time! Does it have commercials, maybe?
[REL] Kaze no Matasaburô - Garasu no manto (1989)

Thank you, ghost! It is a relief NOT to devote 14.8 GB to a file that does not have subtitles yet.
Your new version is PERFECT.

I didn't download the SD version (and I don't have to anymore), but this is really strange...

Now, this looks ineteresting!
Would it be possible to have the proper version from somewhere other than eMule?
Also, how is the progress with the subtitles?

They are nearly done. SO close. And just when I think I'm in the clear after figuring out a big part, the movie (and the whisper transcription) throws me a curve ball. Some recent areas would not cooperate with any transcription techniques. My only option was to become more creative in figuring out (get better!) how to transcribe it and discover new resources.
I can't wait to share the work. Won't be long. I just completed another difficult area.

This seems to be a very challenging subtitle project.
Thanks for the work you're doing (and that I don't have to do). I can't wait to see your subtitles.

I do not know if this will be of only help, and it might be too late anyway. But the Japanese novel this film is based on is available online (public domain) at https://www.aozora.gr.jp/cards/000081/f ... 30595.htmlpillowbaker wrote: Sun Sep 21, 2025 2:27 am They are nearly done. Here is a page that explains some aspects of the dialect used https://www5a.biglobe.ne.jp/accent/kazeno/hougen.htm

Re: [REL] Kaze no Matasaburô - Garasu no manto (1989)
Subtitles are now complete.
I thank everyone who waited for their completion. I know it took some months. I also thank ghost who provided input and questions, as well as the quality video of the movie. Each section of the movie I had to approach a bit of a mini-project and were quite involved. And I admit, there were some weeks I didn't do much on it.
I look forward to making a writeup about the creation process. I had to utilize every resource I could muster, including the original work by Kenji Miyazawa (which Quasta posted a link to above
) and a fan translation, among some others.
The story of Matasaburo and the kids who surrounded him is presented I guess in a sort of "slice of life" style, which all their adventures and special moments tied together around the character of Karin. Much of the other aspects of the film's presentation focuses on the landscape and environments, which is arguably one of the large thematic points of the original book.
Hope you have the opportunity to sit back and enjoy.
Timed to ghost's release. It should also sync perfectly with the 14gb file with the name "HDTV MPEG-2 AAC-nhkfans".

I thank everyone who is helping share ghost's file on eMule, because I just went through 5 hard drives searching for and NOT finding it! By the time I wake up tomorrow it should be done downloading, and maybe by afternoon I can sit down and watch it. THANK YOU pillowbaker, as well as those who provided assistance and resources.
