[REL] Late Night With the Devil (2023)

Late Night with the Devil (2023)

(It lists multiple countries-of-origin:
Countries of origin: Australia | United Arab Emirates | United States
I decided to list it in 'Australia' because it also lists 3 different 'Filming Locations' and all essentially say: Docklands Studios, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Hence my decision. ;) If someone finds more pertinent information for a different country of origin, feel free to change it.. :) )

While the date shows 2023, it wasn't actually released into theaters until March 22, 2024.

Synopsis:
A live television broadcast in 1977 goes horribly wrong, unleashing evil into the nation's living rooms.
Not sure how FLM-ish the movie really is as the reason I'm listing it, the actress Ingrid Torelli, is, at this time of posting, 18 years old.

In the movie her character, Lilly (a girl supposedly possessed by a very powerful demon), is (I believe) 14 or 15 years old. It's one of those cases where an older actress is playing a younger character. However, looking at the dates, it could be that she was actually 16 or 17 at the time of filming.. :think

Anyway, this started streaming a few weeks ago and I grabbed it up and watched it as soon as I could. I was pleasantly surprised that I REALLY enjoyed this movie. I didn't realize, from what I knew of the film, that Lilly's character played such a major part of the film and I felt that overall, she was a passable mid-teenager.

The movie had a creepy vibe; the plot was compelling and believable despite a few holes here and there, I found it totally entertaining. (My 'Movie Review'-ish assessment. ) I started watching it after 12:00am and couldn't turn it off until the end credits rolled an hour and a half later...

Lilly at first was a star-struck teen excited to be on TV, but turned... Yikes! Almost dropped a 'Spoiler'! :P

You can find it at YTS:

And other places on the web. Including, I'm pretty sure, on eD2k. ;)

Check it out, if 'horror' is your bag ['70's jargon :P ]! It's a fun ride and well worth a watch. :thumbsup

... nostalgia for that 70s TV show set design ... !

The world premiere was March 10, 2023 at the South by Southwest Film Festival, so Ingrid Torelli was definitely 17 or younger then and quite possibly 16 during filming. I am curious about Elise Jansen as "Cavewoman". And that combination of countries is definitely unusual.

I will check this out, thanks!

It was ok. The characters (and their backgrounds) were meant to be T.V. personality cliches, but that didn't make it any less predictable or formulaic.

I liked the ending more than the film itself, when he's sent through his private hell and you're just watching it without any kind of narrative or audience hand-holding. That might have been what I disliked about most of it.

I would have preferred the whole film to take place in found-footage, it's weird these backstage scenes.

...Actually the 'backstage scenes' WERE the main 'found-footage'. :think

The rest of the film was the actual televised program that had already been seen by whoever happened to be watching the show the night it aired... Allegedly the behind-the-scenes footage [footage that was never meant to be seen by the public-at-large] was spliced-in by the creators of this movie to give their audience a clearer picture of what was going on at the time the show was being taped. (If you followed the found-footage mythos offered at the start of the film.)

It worked pretty well for me as I had already made the mistake of repeated viewings of the trailers [you'd think I'd know better by now {I do; don't care! :P } ], so I could pretty much predict the story-line anyway. Though predictable [c'mon; the guy was trying to interview a demonic entity on live TV... Who COULDN'T predict that some sort of hellish chaos was going to ensue! ;) ], I felt the movie breathed some fresh air into a beaten-dead-horse sub-genre [found footage horror].

So, DaveTheBoss I can understand where you and guava98 are coming from, but the movie worked better for me. The ending was icing on a cake that I thoroughly enjoyed! :bigups

Honestly, to me; THAT [the characters being 'TV personality cliches'] would be the very thing that WOULD make the film 'predictable' and/or 'formulaic'. I found them more as 'recognizable stereotypes', and wallowed in the comfort of spending some time with old friends...

Oh not for me, the found-footage, it's the TV recording of the show found... What happens behind the scenes is not supposed to be recorded...

Ummm... Really?

Damn all those 'Behind-The-Scenes' added footage [as well as 'deleted-scene' footage, as they were cut from the film for a reason] found in the 'DVD Extras'!

Not to mention [WHOOPS; I guess I'm about to.. :o ]; damn, DAMN all the 'Behind-The-Scenes' footage used to pad Documentaries on any given film or actors [actresses] life ever-frggin' made!! (Which, by-the-way, is what this film purported to be. ;) )

How dare they record any 'Behind-The-Scenes' footage! How friggin' dare they!! ...... :think
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sarcasm [obviously the wit of fools :icon_1idiot ] aside, let's use your premise that the 'Aired Footage' is the actual MAIN 'found-footage' of the movie.. Can you give me that the 'Behind-The-Scenes' footage is the 'Incidental Found Footage'? Or better yet; the 'Found-er Found Footage'?! :P

(Damned if I don't think that pesky sarcasm snuck in, again..) :wall

Seriously in this case; It's ALL 'Found Footage'...
