Not sure how many people have seen this yet, but I had the pleasure of viewing it the other night.
Shannon Mahina Gorman does a really good job as Mia; a Japanese-American mixed young girl who's mother wants her to get into an extremely snooty private school that frowns on single parent families. Hence her mother incorporates the services of 'Rental Family' bringing an American actor, Phillip Vanderploeg into their lives to be her 'dad'.

Becoming a dad is just one of a number of jobs that Phillip takes on but is, along with another story about befriending an aging film actor that is beginning to experience dementia, the main focus of the movie.
This movie worked for me on an emotional level. It was funny one minute, then ripping your heart out the next. THEN carefully putting it back as if that were really possible!
Have the tissue box close by when watching this one..
