Here's a charming, realistic look at two sisters (Eleonore Klarwein and Odile Michel), thirteen and fifteen years of age, and their lives in France during the school year of 1963. No real plot is to be found, instead a slice-of-life commentary; subjects include trouble at school, wearing the in-clothing, dating, sadistic teachers, divorced parents, disagreements with mom and dad.

Although the middle gets a little confusing if you haven't been paying close attention to the characters' names, this is a fine debut by director Diane Kurys that manages to capture the confusion and awkwardness of early adolescence from the female perspective, which is a feat seldom tackled.
