[Image][Image][Image][Image][Image]The Christmas Hope is a sentimental story filled with emotion, loss, recovery and hope.
Madeleine Stowe and James Remar star as a husband and wife going through troubled times with the anniversary of the death of their college-aged son which occurred at the holiday season. Patricia (Stowe) is a child social worker and Mark (Remar) is a commercial pilot. Their home life is strained and on the verge of breaking.
Then Patricia brings home a little girl whose mother just died in a car accident. Little Emily (Tori Barban) is a sweet little girl but being the holidays, there is no foster home available. To keep her out of the state facility, Patricia agrees to keep the girl through Christmas.
Emily immediately bonds with Mark, who feels alive again. Although still morning his son, he finds a new focus when he’s with Emily. This frustrates Patricia who feels that her influence in their son’s life was nonexistent and that he was more his father’s son than hers. She unfairly blames him for their son’s death although he had nothing to do with it. However she needs a culprit in order to deal with the loss and the only one she can blame is her husband. He is as patient as possible with her, but she simply cannot get through the mourning process.
In the meantime, the ER doctor (Ian Ziering) and his wife are expecting a child. While preparing their home, they come across a Christmas present that had fallen off a gurney a couple years before. The patient died, but only after the doctor agreed to get the present to his mother.
There are many layers of this film and the stories are all intertwined. From Emily’s mother, the boy who sells trees at the Christmas tree lot, the ER doctor and Patricia, they are all connected in some way or another.
Emily brings everyone together. She is the innocent girl who carries a genuine love and hope for the holidays and her life positively affects everyone around her.
This is a film filled with sadness but like all good holiday films, this ends with hope and love. Tori Barban is adorable and someone to keep an eye out for in the future. She could have a big career in front of her.
