hey peeps, running out of room

I am running out of space and need to un-share some stuff. What is the usual time you guys keep things shared for?

I am still being hit for stuff in films back to October, and Music Vids Back to July.

I will leave up Music Vids as they are small space, but will have to remove some films and shorts from my sharing. I will put these on disc so if anyone needs a re-share.

I will share these til the end of month.

Look at the Complete Sources column on the Shared Files tab in eMule. If the number is larger than one (1) it means someone besides you is sharing a complete copy and you can unshare that file. I usually leave files on release for two weeks then move them to regular sharing or unshare it.

You shouldn't worry too much about unsharing - people will request a reshare if it's needed. If your finances can handle it, you might consider adding a hard drive. A 2 terabyte drive is around $100.

Note that "Complete Sources" is not reliable (it is usually lower than the number of actual complete sources). The server is not monitoring the available sources actively – I think when a client connects it reports how many complete sources it already has. So if nobody is downloading the file, then "Complete Sources" is not updated.

Sharing too much (2TB) at once is probably not a good idea, because it slows down the uploads and may cause problems finding the sources.

I don't share that much, usually around 650 GB, all of which are low sourced. I don't let my queue get much bigger than 75. I mentioned 2TB because they don't cost much more than a 1TB drive anyway.

Thanks for the info. I bought two flashs drives the other day cause I thought that was what I needed and found out that they hold a ridiculously small amount of info so I a returning them. I saw the storage thing but did'nt know what a 1TB was. I am glad you meantioned the 2TB being not much more.

A flash drive is different - e.g. pen drive or SD card. It is not intended to be used as storage that is connected all the time. For that you need a hard drive or an SSD - solid state drive. SSDs are great, but sadly, NOT CHEAP and are recommended for your PC or laptop as the main (C) drive. What Phuzzy was talking about was an external hard drive in a USB connected enclosure. These are cheap and, especially if your PC supports USB3, quite impressive.

Actually, I was talking about adding an internal hard drive. It usually pretty easy to add at least one more hard drive to most systems and an internal drive is much much faster than USB, even USB3. I don't like the idea of hanging a relatively fragile drive out where it can be bumped, bounced, dropped, etc. USB drives have their place, I just don't look at them as an always-connected thing.

donkeycog, TB is shorthand for terabyte. 1TB is costing around $80 US right now and 2 TB is around $100. Just make sure you get the correct kind for your system - IDE or SATA.
